Introduction

The world of Wi-Fi Routers never ceased to bring something new, not only in terms of hardware design but also networking capabilities. Connected devices including laptops, game consoles, smart TVs, and other appliances are getting more sophisticated and able to handle high speed data transfer.

To do that, however, there is the need for reliable router to optimize connectivity. The C6300 and C7000 cable modem routers are sitting at the top of NETGEAR’s home networking lineup featuring DOCSIS 3.0 cable modem to tackle simultaneous demanding applications.

NETGEAR C6300

Designed to function as both cable modem and router for home networking, the C6300 helps you reduce monthly rental fee for using the modem provided by your ISP. It is compatible with major service providers including but not limited to Time Warner Cable, Comcast XFINITY, Cablevision, and Cox.

C6300’s Wi-Fi runs on simultaneous dual-band configuration. Its 2.4GHz band delivers up to 450Mbps, while the 5GHz band transmits at maximum speed of 1300Mbps. On the back of the router, there are four Gigabit Ethernet ports for more reliable wired connectivity, a USB 2.0 port, and a coaxial cable internet. On the front of the unit, you can find WPS and Wi-Fi buttons.

The highlight of NETGEAR C6300 is DOCSIS 3.0 technology to enable channel bonding capabilities. When choosing a cable modem, most people consider only the maximum speed offered. Let us not forget that such speed is theoretical and tested inside a controlled environment where congestion and interference are non-existent. In reality, they will get much slower speed because the cable modem probably provides only one channel for each downstream and upstream.

NETGEAR C6300 comes equipped with advanced channel bonding technology, the DOCSIS 3.0. It uses 16 x 4 channel bonding (16 downstream channels and 4 upstream channels) to get the most of your cable Internet subscription fee. If the maximum speed of one downstream channel reaches about 5Mbps, you get a total of 80Mbps maximum download speed.

During traffic congestion, the speed will drop per channel, but the total amount still delivers considerable speed even for demanding applications such as video gaming and HD video streaming. More channels also mean better redundancy; when one channel goes down, you still have many channels available to transmit data. The C6300 cable modem router delivers up to 680Mbps download speed and 122Mbps upload speed when using cable connection.

A single USB 2.0 port may not serve well for sharing, but it should not be a problem when you mainly transfer small-sized files like pictures or documents. You can also use the USB port to connect an external hard drive for backup purpose. Every client in the network can access the external storage device, unless you set some restrictions.

Just like most routers from NETGEAR, the C6300 is supported by Genie App to manage and configure the network. Initial setup is done via browser-based platform, so there is no CD or any software that runs in the background all the time. You can also access the online configuration from computer or mobile devices. In terms of security, the cable modem router features parental controls, encryption, and guest networks.

NETGEAR C7000

In simple way, the C7000 is an improved version of C6300 with better-powered processor, maximum speed, channel bonding, and signal efficiency. Also known as the Nighthawk AC1900 Cable Modem Router, the C7000 is equipped with dual core processor and industry-leading 24 x 8 channel bonding technology.

Powerful processor is necessary to handle multiple tasks simultaneously, ensuring smooth connections to every client. The most important thing is that C7000 has 24 downstream and 8 upstream channels to give maximum download speed of 960Mbps through cable connection.

Wireless connectivity is also improved with theoretical speed of 600Mbps via 2.4GHz band and 1300Mbps on the 5GHz band. Another addition is Beamforming technology which targets signals to active devices only instead of spreading it all across the room. Every client is the priority in signal distribution to give more efficient data transfer.

There is one thing that does not improve, however. Similar to C6300, there is only one USB 2.0 port in the C7000. Besides the sharing-features, more similarities are found in terms of compatibility with major service providers, security features including parental controls, guest networks, and Gigabit Ethernet ports.
