With Sena SMH5 and SMH10, motorcycle or scooter riders are able to do two-way communication regardless of background noise thanks to the well-designed microphone and speakers with Advanced Noise Control that automatically detects and minimize background noise while it maintains direct voice communication at full volume. With the SMH10, users can even engage in four-way conference intercom system.
One of the most important parts is SMH5 is its noise reduction mechanism. Any background noise including from the wind is automatically detected and suppressed to minimum.
Combined with Audio Boosting, this headset eliminates the usual obstacles that usually limit motorcycle riders’ ability to communicate with each other.
The package includes many things including the main headset unit, helmet speakers, attachable microphone, USB cable, microphone holder, microphone sponges, clamp unit, and even an Allen wrench.
SMH5 is powered by a rechargeable battery to provide up to 8 hours of talking time or 7 days of standby time. The USB cable included in the box can be used as power cable and for computer connection to download firmware updates.
Paired With Compatible Phone
The main headset unit is designed to be glove-friendly. It has big jog dial for easier volume adjustment and access to multiple functions. Sena SMH5 is Bluetooth-enabled device that can be used for two-way communication, and it can be paired with compatible phone.
When paired with a phone, you can use it as any regular Bluetooth headset to listen to music, make hands-free phone call, or listen to GPS device voice navigation.
The maximum range of Bluetooth intercom connection reaches up to 400 meters. Since SMH5 is a Universal Intercom device, it can be used or paired with other Bluetooth-enabled headsets from different manufacturers as well. When used for intercom device, communications are carried over Bluetooth, so there is no need for mobile phone.
Although the designs of both SMH5 and SMH10 are somewhat similar, the latter is much more powerful communication device. They are all Bluetooth-enabled headsets, but SMH10 offers better intercom functionality to conduct a four-way communication.
The maximum range of connection drastically improves as well, reaching up to 900 meters.
Battery power management in SMH10 is also better with a maximum talk time of 12 hours or 10 days in standby mode. Another good thing is that it supports 3.5mm audio auxiliary audio-in connection, so it is possible to connect the headset to a mobile phone without using the Bluetooth.
Moreover, SMH10 allows users to listen to the same music during two-way communication. This function can be activated during intercom conversation, and the music source can be either of the connected headsets.
Apart from the aforementioned differences, almost all features are the same including noise cancellation mechanism, compatibility with other Bluetooth headsets, and upgradeable firmware. Either headset can be used wile charging with the provided USB cable.
