Introduction To Razer Nabu X Smartband

Razer, an established name in gaming hardware industry, apparently got itself into a world of smart-wearables. While android smart watch and activity tracker are filling up the market, Razer came up with its own idea to provide smartband for gamers, so the company has not really stepped out of its original business.

Social Smartband

Razer Nabu X brings the possibilities for users to interact with other users within specified proximity. The interaction allows you to exchange data or profiles from social websites such as Facebook and Twitter.

Even the activity data are shareable if the fitness apps in use offer sharing function.

In the near future, Nabu X is also expected to enable function for gamers to connect to each other in real life. Nabu and Nabu X have the same developer portal, and there are more than 10,000 developers working to create third-party apps for the smartband.

Activity Tracker

At a glance, Razer Nabu X looks like any usual fitness tracker mostly because it indeed has that function. There is a built-in accelerometer to measure a range of variables including steps count, distance travelled, active minutes, hours slept, and calories burnt; there is even option to set goals.

As an activity tracker, Nabu X is not a stand-alone device meaning you have to pair it with an app on your compatible phone via Bluetooth Low Energy.

Razer currently has at least two apps designed specifically for the smartband including Nabu X Utility and Nabu Fitness. The utility app is mainly for configuration such as notification setting, data, and customization. Activity monitoring and logging are handled by the fitness app.

The biggest difference between Nabu and Nabu X is that the former is equipped with an OLED screen for users to read notification and short texts on it. This small screen is replaced with 3 LED lights on the Nabu X.

Instead of reading notification, you can assign a different LED light for different notification. Red, green, and blue colors can be switched out to represent any specific notification from your phone for example red for incoming calls, green for email, and blue for text messages.

However, you can customize it depending on your personal preference. All notifications including battery level indicator and pairing status are displayed by those LED lights as well. You can also assign vibration pattern for notification.

The main sensor module is detachable, allowing you to change the soft-rubber band with three different colors including black, white, and green colors; all straps are one-size-fits-all.

It is powered by Lithium-polymer battery that lasts for 5 to 7 days on a single charge depending on usage. Razer Nabu X has an accelerometer, 3 LED lights, vibration motor, and everything is IP67 water resistant.

It is compatible with iOS devices (iPhone 5, 5S, 5C, and 6) and Android 4.3 and up. It comes with a proprietary charging cable which you can use on any USB wall charger or computer.
