Most features you can expect from a modern AV receiver exist in the Onkyo TX-NR636 including built-in WiFi, home theater decoders (DTS, Dolby Digital, etc), Bluetooth, and HDMI ports.

Onkyo TX-NR636 is one of the first few AV receivers to introduce Dolby Atmos. It is the latest invention from Dolby to add new dimension to home theater experience.

While the 5.1 and 7.1 schemes basically deliver sound all over the room, Atmos is able to create more interesting 3-dimensional effects. The sound is no longer creating a wall around the audience, but also above them.

HDMI 2.0 connectivity is provided to give better support to Ultra HD 4K which certainly requires more bandwidth. Another futuristic feature is HDCP 2.2, the latest type of copy protection to create more secure and stable connection between source and display for Ultra HD 4K.

Onkyo implements AccuEQ to analyze room condition, speaker size, and placement to calibrate sound processing for best possible output.

The package includes a small microphone which will be used as a reference point to deploy AccuEQ. You need to place it in front of the receiver to let it work.

Yamaha RX-V677 AV Receivers

The Yamaha RX-V677 AV Receivers is a 7.1 channel amplifier with built-in WiFi, HDMI ports, MHL compatibility, home theater surround processing, Bluetooth connectivity, and more.

The RX-V677 by Yamaha does not have Dolby Atmos and is not HDCP 2.2 compliant. What it does have is optimized playback feature for mobile devices including Apple AirPlay and HTC connect.

Those who use iPad, iPod, or iPhone can plug their device into the front USB input to create digital connection and play audio contents in HD quality.

Apple AirPlay is also available for wireless streaming from your device. Yamaha RX-V677 comes with HTC Connect feature. Yamaha allows compatible HTC phone users to stream audio to this AV receiver without cable connection.

With a simple swipe of screen, RX-V677 will start playing audio files stored in the phone. Yamaha RX-V677 uses YPAO Volume to optimize EQ correction based on speaker configuration to adapt to listening environment.
