Midland Radio Corporation, a Missouri-based manufacturer of communication devices, remains a persistent manufacturer that has been providing two-way radios, among other communication devices, for more than 50 years. T
Two-way radios are no longer new devices, but the features provided by the Midland GXT1000VP4 should be more-than-enough to facilitate a reliable two way communication.
With everything that it brings, the device promises convenient and simple way to keep in touch with friends or families during outdoor activities.
It is powered by either NiMH rechargeable battery or 4 AA Alkaline batteries.A package of GXT1000VP4 includes a pair of radios, belt clips, a pair of headsets, battery packs, desktop charger, AC adapter, DC adapter, and manual.
Each radio provides 22 channels and additional 28 channels for better privacy. It even has 285 privacy codes, allowing you to choose from a total of 6270 channels to help you prevent interferences from other radios.
In an open area, two radios can communicate to each other even from 36 miles away. There is also channel scan feature to check for any activity on two different channels (the currently in use one and any user-selectable channel).
The GX1000VP4 is a resistant to water splashes from any direction (JIS4 rating). For hands-free operation, this device offers a VOX mode with 9 levels of sensitivity to transmit your voice even when you cannot touch the radio.
More features are briefly outlined below:
– Weather update that scans any available and active weather channel in your current area. An automatic NOAA alert for weather hazard is also provided and constantly available.
– An easily accessible SOS button at the front side of each radio. Pressing this button sends a distressing signal during an emergency situation.
– Direct Call feature allows you to communicate with one member of your group without alerting others.
– Keypad-lock makes sure you do not accidentally change any setting due to unintentional button pressing.
– Silent operation that turns off all tones, but you still get vibration alert for incoming messages.
– Three different power settings to allow you determine transmit power level; high, medium, and low options are provided.
– Auto squelch feature that minimizes interferences from background noises for clearer communication.
– Whisper function that increases microphone sensitivity so the radio transmits high volume sounds even when you are whispering.
An upgrade of the aforementioned device is the Midland GXT2000VP4. The upgraded version brings a few more extra features namely :-
- It Uses Li-Polymer Rechargeable Battery Pack
- HD Dynamic Audio that offers loud and clear digital sound
- Improved LCD screen display that is larger
The upgraded version uses Lithium Polymer instead of NiMH, so power management is expected to be better; this type of battery charges more quickly and it retains power more efficiently as well.
Midland also dropped the features of Direct Call and Caller ID (In Group Mode)for GXT2000VP4 which is available in GXT1000VP4. It was reported also that the output power for both GXT2000VP4 and GXT1000VP4 is difference.
Apart from those differences, GXT2000VP4 and GXT1000VP4 are nearly identical.
