Introduction

Keyboard remains the most important peripheral for computer, and that is the main reason that bad quality keyboard can slow anyone down during work. Those who love games may also need to improve their play by using high-end keyboard with a lot of additional features.

Whatever the reason is, anyone can benefit from upgrading keyboard. Logitech, an internationally reputable peripherals maker, has come up with interesting solutions to help you improve typing efficiency, comfort, and overall performance with Wireless Desktop Mouse and Keyboard Combo MK550 and MK710. They work only on Windows-based computers from the oldest Windows XP to the newest Windows 10 operating system.

Logitech MK550

Mouse and keyboard combo MK550 tries to solve any discomfort issues during typing and clicking by implementing principles of ergonomics. At first, users are probably overwhelmed by looking at the size because the keyboard is larger than most conventional models in the market.

The good thing is that there are many hot keys, allowing users to have quicker access to applications and media. Most commonly used keys such as Space, Alt, and Ctrl are made bigger than usual.

The main highlight of this keyboard is its wavy frame and mechanical keys of different heights. According to Logitech, the design matches different lengths of fingers; as a result, every key press will feel more natural to the hand, and this applies either you are ten-finger typist or not.

A large portion of the keyboard is used for the cushioned and contoured palm rest to help retain the natural-positions of relaxed fingers even during long typing session. On the underside, there is a flip-out feet to adjust typing angles. Similar to most keyboard, F keys has double functions but Logitech uses them for more common commands for examples launching calendars or checking emails.

The mouse uses laser technology to deliver precise tracking on almost all surfaces, except glass and mirror. Scrolling is no longer limited to up and down, but it also gives left and right scrolling as well as zooming in and out. The sides of the mouse are contoured and covered with rubber to give better grip. Both keyboard and mouse in the combo operate via wireless 2.4GHz connectivity with up to 30 feet range.

The package includes Unifying Receiver which works with up to six compatible peripherals, so you have to use only one USB port. Keyboard and mouse are powered by AA batteries. The included batteries will keep the keyboard running for about three years and the mouse for two years.

Logitech MK710

Unlike the MK550, keyboard in the MK710 is not wavy, but the keys have soft-rounded edges to help users position the fingers comfortably and correctly. It is more like any standard keyboard but with improved key shape and some additional features including a small LCD dashboard as indicators for Caps Lock, Num Lock, battery power, Scroll Lock, and more. Hot keys to access media and multi-function F keys are present as well.

MK710 keyboard and mouse also operate with 2.4GHz connectivity and Unifying Receiver. The mouse features something called “hyper-fast scrolling” to allow users to scroll through long pages more quickly. Both keyboard and mouse are powered with batteries which should keep each running for three years.

Introduction

Although most audio/video equipment manufacturers offer a complete set of entertainment system, chances are the vast majority of people assemble their multimedia appliances from different brands, for example a Sony TV, Denon receiver, Samsung Blu-ray, etc; and this is where universal remote control comes-in.

Instead of using many different remote controls to operate all those devices, a universal controller allows you to access the entire equipment from one controller only.

Among all brands available in the market, Logitech an established name in the industry particularly with its Harmony series including the Harmony 650 and 700.

Harmony Advantages

All remote controls listed in Harmony series by Logitech can all be configured by using computer (PC or Mac). Every purchase includes a software CD to connect the remote to an online database containing setup files to configure your remote or pair it with your existing electronic appliances.

The database keeps on growing, but currently it provides compatibility feature with more than 5,000 manufacturers and 225,000 devices. Whatever brand you are using, chances are they are compatible with Logitech Harmony.

To configure the remote, you need to connect it to a computer via included USB cable. When you launch the application in the CD software, you can type the name and model of your equipment such as HDTV, game console, AV Receiver, DVD player, and so on.

Harmony software will send the information to the remote. There is also one-touch control with which you can set a sequence of actions by only pressing a button.

For example, pressing the “Watch TV’ button will trigger a series of sequences including powering on the HDTV, changing input, and turn on all devices necessary.

Logitech Harmony 700

To start with, Harmony 700 is quite big yet ergonomic remote control equipped with 1-inch x 1-inch LCD screen surrounded by five buttons. It is not a touchscreen, but you can navigate through the screen by pressing the surrounding buttons.

Logitech Harmony 700 can control up to 6 devices and is powered by rechargeable batteries. It does not feature a charging cradle, so you will need to use a wall charger.

This remote control is actually a discontinued product, but you can still probably see it in many online stores. It is safe to assume that this remote will be more difficult to get in the future, yet Logitech provides an even more affordable and equally well-featured alternative in the form of Logitech Harmony 650.

Logitech Harmony 650

In terms of design, screen size, compatibility, and even button layout, Logitech Harmony 650 is very similar to the 700.

There are two major differences including the number of devices it can control and battery. When it was still supported, Harmony 700 could replace up to 6 remote controls, but the Harmony 650 can do better by replacing the needs for up to 8 remotes.

Harmony 650 is powered by two AA batteries, but you can replace them with rechargeable AA batteries as well.

Introduction

When you are giving presentation, interaction with the audience is a must. Instead of running and back and forth between every slide, you can use the time engaging in simple short discussion that involves any of your audience to make your presentation more interesting.

Good peripherals improve your presentation, and in this case a remote can be useful. Logitech provides something a little better than that in Professional Presenter R800 and Wireless Presenter R400. They are compatible with popular presentation computer program and equipped with clearly visible laser pointers.

Professional Presenter R800

Logitech, a Swiss-based computer peripherals maker which also has headquarter in the U.S, has always been a prominent name in computer market.  The Professional Presenter R800 with an ergonomic design to help deliver any presentation in more efficient way. It is basically a remote connected to a computer via 2.4GHz wireless technology by using a receiver.

The basic function of all wireless presenters is the same, but what make a product different from others are the additional features such as timers, battery power indicator, or vibration alert.

Professional Presenter R800 has an LCD screen sitting on the top of the unit above control buttons to deliver all the information you need including signal strength, timer, and battery power.

Display

The display measures only at 1-inch H by 0.5-inch W, but it is enough to contain visible indicators for the aforementioned information. Signal strength takes the top part of the screen, followed by timer in the middle, and battery level on the bottom.

Timer

Timer is easily set, and it will give silent vibrating alerts when you reach the final five, two, and zero minutes of your presentation. As it reaches zero, it will count in normal progression until sixty minutes so you know how far you’ve exceeded the allowed duration.

Wireless  Maximum Range

Its wireless technology has maximum range of up to 30 meters (100 feet). Even when you’re giving presentation at the far back of a large hall, R800 will still be able to connect to your computer that sits on the desk.

Green Laser Pointer

Signal strength indicator gives clear visible sign of reception level, which can be used as a measure of possible interference as well. It also comes with green laser pointer to provide good visibility in bright room or flat panel display. Battery level is represented by a large three horizontal bars on the bottom part of the screen.

Battery

Instead of using rechargeable or coin batteries, Professional Presenter R800 is powered by 2 AAA batteries. They are relatively inexpensive and can be found everywhere.

Dimension & Weight

At 1.5-inch H x 5.28-inch W x 1.1-inch D, it is not the slimmest presenter in the market, but its has an ergonomic design and simple control buttons layout.

Weighing at 71 grams (2.5 oz), this is also not the lightest presenter, yet a little weight gives it an air of quality. There are 5 buttons on the front side including Next Slide, Previous Slide, Play, Fade, and Laser Pointer. Power switch is located on the left side. The buttons are big enough and easy to press even without looking.

Package Contents

Professional Presenter R800 is packaged with a wireless mini receiver, 2 AAA batteries, instruction manual, and a carrying case. The mini receiver can be securely stored inside the presenter when you’re done. Logitech provides 3-year limited warranty, too.

The receiver is plug & play device, meaning it requires no driver; you can use this on any computer that runs on Windows Operating System. It does not currently support UNIX, Linux, and Macintosh operating systems.

Wireless Presenter R400

If you are dealing with smaller presentation or meeting room, Logitech Wireless Presenter R400 offers more or less the same functionality but with reduced connectivity range.

Utilizing the same 2.4GHz wireless technology, R400 only reaches maximum signal reception from 15 meters (50 feet) of distance. LCD screen is also omitted, yet the battery level indicator remains in existent albeit in simpler horizontal bar.

Big Difference

Buttons layout and placement are the same with R800. Another big difference is that the green laser pointer in R800 is replaced with a red one, but both actually use the same Class 2 Laser technology. It also uses 2 AAA batteries.

However, even without the LCD screen and all the additional indicators, the battery life on both models are equal at 20 hours maximum (laser pointer) and 1050 hours maximum (presenter).
