LeapFrog LeapPad3 Learning Tablet

LeapFrog LeapPad is built especially for children in terms of both hardware and software. LeapFrog actually adds two new variants to the LeapPad model including LeapPad3 and LeapPad Ultra.

Both are built based on the previously popular devices such as LeapPad Explorer and LeapPad2. The LeapPad3 can be considered the mid-range tablet from LeapFrog; it stands between the smaller LeapPad2 and the bigger LeapPad Ultra.

LeapFrog LeapPad3 Design

The overall design is not too childish, unlike similar devices from LeapFrog’s competitors. You can almost say that LeapPad3 is quite stylish.

There are two color variants including green and pink; the design precisely reflects its purpose. As LeapPad3 is intended for children, it has some additional protections such as the soft bumper that insulates the device and acts as a shock-absorbing frame.

Its screen is shatter-safe and secured with silicone gasket. Besides providing additional shock-absorbing ability, the silicone gasket is water-resistant as well.

With all the protections it has, LeapFrog is designed to survive rough treatments from kids and their friends.

The overall dimension measures at 7.5-inch W x 5.1-inch H x 1-inch D; it weighs around 0.4kg. It has 5-inch touchscreen with a resolution of 480 x 272 pixels.

It is powered by rechargeable lithium-ion battery that lasts for more than 6 hours on a single charge. LeapPad3 carries 1000MHz processor speed and 4GB of memory size.

As additions, it is also equipped with two 2MP camera in the front and back. The camera is able to record 480p videos.

LeapFrog LeapPad3 Software

The main highlight is the software including the Zui technology along with LeapSearch which is a proprietary web-browser designed for children.

Unlike the Internet browsers on normal tablets, LeapSearch is a kid-safe web browser to keep children away from any rough contents widely spread across the web.

Apart from the children-oriented browser, LeapPad3 allows parents to set a security code so they are always in control of what the children can access.

This tablet is also cheaper than normal Android tablets or iPads; once again, it is intended for children and it will be mainly used to play games and access educative contents to learn how to read, write, solve puzzles, etc.

Surprisingly, the educational software bundled with LeapPad3 is actually more expensive compared to those you can find on iTunes or Google Play.

LeapPad3 comes with 10 free apps including Clock, Calendar, Calculator, Notepad, and Voice Memo. The other 4 apps are Music Player, Pet Pad Party, Pet Chat, and Photo Fun Ultra.

Another app is freely available from LeapFrog App Store. Using its WiFi connection, children can enjoy peer-to-peer play with their friends; some games that support this gameplay are Pet Chat, Pet Pad Party, Kart Racing, Arturo’s Bug Adventures, and more.

LeapFrog App Store

LeapFrog actually has its own educator team which reviews and approves contents accessible from LeapPad3.

LeapFrog App Store does not have as many apps as you can find on Google Play or iTunes, but it still offers more than 1000 child appropriate contents including games, eBooks, videos, apps, and more.
