In case colorful images and graphics are not priorities, Brother has at least two all-in-one printers worth considering: the Brother MFC L-2700DW and MFC L-2740DW.

Features and functionalities between them are not separated by a distant gap, but the latter has some considerable advantages over the former, particularly in terms of speed and duplexing capabilities.

Brother MFC-L2700DW

The Brother MFC-L2700DW is indeed a monochrome printer, but it is an all-in-one printer designed mainly for small office or home office to handle light to moderate duty.

The dimension is compact, making it an ideal peripheral to fit a small desk yet it produces professional printing quality in black and white with maximum resolution of 2400 x 600 dpi at 27ppm.

All the basic MFP (Multi-Function Product/ Printer/ Peripheral) features exist including printing, faxing, copying, and scanning. It can even print, fax, and scan over a network as well as from-and-to a PC.

Paper handling specification is respectable especially for a small office printer with 250-sheet input tray, 100-sheet output tray, single-sheet manual feed, and a built-in printing duplexer.

The scanning feature is supplemented by letter-size flatbed with 35-sheet automatic document feeder to handle up to legal-size paper. Copying speed is the same as printing at 27cpm.

Although this is marketed as monochrome MFP, scanning is possible in full color with optical resolution of 2400 x 600 dpi which can extend to an interpolated resolution of 19200 x 19200 dpi.

When MFC-L2700DW is connected to a network either by WiFi or Ethernet, you can activate the mobile printing feature to print over the cloud; of course, the network must be connected to the Internet to do so.

Another option is to connect the MFP to a WiFi access point on your network. If you connect the printer via USB cable to a PC, cloud-printing is not possible, but wireless printing is still supported by connecting your document source to the printer via WiFi Direct.

Brother MFC-L2740DW

It is another monochrome MFP by Brother, but it actually does more than you probably expect. One of the biggest advantages is that MFC-L2740DW does duplex for all its functions including print, scan, fax, and copy.

Moreover, it scans both pages of a paper at the same time, providing considerable speed advantage over most of its competitors. Many MFPs offer duplex scanning with ADFs, but you have to scan both pages one at a time.

The front-panel menu provides easy access to activate duplex copying as well. You can copy single-sided and double-sided originals to single-sided or double-sided copies. Copying speed is at 32cpm.

Paper handling specification is exactly the same as MFC-L2740DW with 250-sheet input tray, 100-sheet output tray, 35-page ADF, single-sheet manual feed, and printing speed of 32ppm.

It has all the connectivity features you can find in the MFC-L2700DW and a little bit more. It is able to connect directly to selected cloud storage services including Google Drive, Evernote, Dropbox, OneDrive, OneNote, Facebook, Box, Picasa Web Albums, and Flickr.
